The physical and spatial connections between buildings and their environment are very much like the corridors and hallways between rooms. Landscape design and the creation of smaller buildings both solve functional problems but also the provide the opportunity to plan the small space of a backyard or the vast expanse of an entire estate. Working with a garden designer or landscape Architect early on in a project is the best way to have a well developed relationship between the inside and outside of a project. The materials, details of outbuildings and exterior features of a house are as important to the determination of style and character as any on the interior. Driveways, paths and steps provide the ability to get from one outdoor space to another and can become spaces in themselves.
